Casa Vasilia is a traditional Cretan stone house located in the village of Kastellos, Chania, Crete. The village is built on a hilltop at the foothills of the White Mountains, at an altitude of approximately 200 meters above sea level.
Situated at the most central point of Kastellos, Casa Vasilia offers panoramic views of both the mountains and the sea. From the first-floor veranda, guests can admire the endless blue waters of Georgioupolis and Kavros, framed by the Cretan mountains rising into the sky. The scenery creates an enchanting setting for enjoying magnificent sunrises and unforgettable sunsets, far from the noise of the city.

Left: 2013 – Original barn | Right: 2022 – Renovated kitchen
Before the renovation, this space was used as a barn for working animals, such as horses and donkeys, which helped with the gardens. During the restoration, we transformed it into a fully functional kitchen while preserving a piece of its history: the rock in the right corner where the rope was once tied for the donkeys remains as a subtle reminder of the house’s past.

Kastellos village is a peaceful and welcoming place, surrounded by lush greenery. It is just a 10-minute drive from the nearest sandy beach, as well as a gas station and supermarket. Car rental is essential, as the house is located in the mountains, approximately 10 km from the beach. This elevated location, however, is part of its charm, providing peace, privacy, and cooler temperatures during the summer months. The village itself is quiet, with a local taverna, offering an authentic Cretan experience. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of Crete, with stunning views of the sea and mountains. Kastellos is the perfect base for those looking to experience the tranquility of rural Crete while still being close to the island's beautiful beaches and vibrant culture.
